Escapism doesn't mean no amenities!

Dunvegan is the closest village, it is about 1.5 miles away and has a post office, two garages, medical centre, bakery, cake shop, fishing tackle shop, two general stores, a superb Fruit and Nut place, tourist information centre, gift shop and outdoor pursuit shop (hunting, shooting, fishing and camping).

There is off course Dunvegan Castle with restaurant and associated gift shop, here you can take boat trips out to watch the seals and arrange for fishing trips on a private basis.

There is a choice of eating places nearby ranging from the famous "Three Chimneys" (approx 2 miles) to the Old School House in Dunvegan and hotels such as The Dunvegan, The Tables and The Misty Isle.

Other places worth trying for food are in Stein - The Old Inn and Loch Bay restaurant (particularly good seafood!) A bit further afield you could try Uillinish or over towards Struan or the other direction towards Portree or Greshornish.

The capital town Portree offers a multitude of restaurants, hotels, shops and banks. It is 22 miles from Dunvegan but has the advantage of having a supermarket open on a Sunday.
